On behalf of the International Gender Design
Network, I designed the iGDA 2017 trophy for the second gender-sensitive design award in two categories: revolution (yellow) and evolution (blue).
The design is based on the asymmetrical, fan-shaped logo of the Institution. An irregular faceting of the cone represents diversity and openness and stands for a progressive, non-binary and fluid understanding of gender identity.
The trophy is made of an everyday plastic material (ABS) with the idea to abandon the problematic material, social and economic issues that come with using traditional high-value materials like gold, silver and copper. The colors yellow and blue are carefully chosen to represent the different categories without associating to any specific gender, nor ranking or discriminating one against the other, but rather to present a complementary color contrast.
Winners:
The blue trophy went to the New York-based company THINX and their innovative products for “real menstruating humans”.
The agency Mindshare Denmark was honoured with the iGDA ‚Revolution‘ for their Image Hack campaign that challenges stereotypical imagery associated with women.
